TASK 1
Gestalt Theory:
This theory is based off shapes/forms as the brain is designed to see patterns in visuals Fig 1.1 is given below to help visualize the principles below.
Principle of Similarity: grouping elements that are similar to each other.
Principle of Continuation: humans tend to view many objects as different.
Principle of Closure: completing figures and forms.
Principle of Proximity: grouping elements into a unified group.
Principle of Figure/Ground: perception of objects either being in the background or foreground.
Law of Symmetry and Order: balancing content in your composition.

Contrast:
There are several ways to create contrast such as 1. Size, 2. Weight, 3. Contrast of Form, 4. Contrast of Structure, 5. Contrast of Texture, 6. Contrast of Color and 7. Contrast of Direction.
In Fig 1.2 contrast is shown using color.

Emphasis:
This is bringing focus to certain part of the design using shape or color for instance.
In Fig 1.3 emphasis is shown using the to make a sort of light ray on the lady on the swing.

Repetition:
Repetition can be used o make a design seem active, give a design rhythm and it may have variety.
Fig 1.4 uses the same print several times with a variety in color to create a pattern.

Movement:
This makes designs lead your eyes around and through the composition of that design. Your design seems to be moving.
In Fig 1.5 movement is shown in the fields and with the birds with the use of the brush strokes to create a motion blur effect.

Harmony:
Harmony involves a common trait, gives you the sense all the element fit together.
Fig 1.6 has harmony in the tones and mood of the painting.

This refers to a element being repeated and it gives a sense of oneness that makes a theme.
In Fig1.7 the repeated element is the man.

Symbol:
A symbol is a shape that has a meaning and shows information. Examples of symbols include pictorial symbols, abstract symbols and arbitrary symbols.
In Fig 1.8 you can see how symbols can mean something else.

Word and Image:
Imagery is essential in a design, images help the viewer understand the design. Wording adds to the imagery. Positioning and type face also has importance to the wording.
Fig 1.9 is a movie poster and shows the use of imagery to show what the movie is about and the wording provides details while complimenting the imagery.

FEEDBACK
REFLECTION
Experience
This task brough me to the basics of identifying the design principles behind designs and knowing the importance and meaning behind those principles.
Observations
I observed how these principles are important in improving a design, how some designs show principles more than others.
Findings
I found out the importance of considering design principles when creating a design, how identifying design principles might help me understand a design better and overall many designs have layers.
