OVERALL REFLECTION.

Experience

Overall this module started off a bit hectic and stressful but I managed to pull through finishing on time, understanding the assignment and learning new technical thing in Adobe Illustrator and some basic rules and ideas on  single word typography in exercise 1 and text formatting in exercise 2. In task 2 we continued text formatting this time more advanced and I enjoyed this task the most out of the 3. In task 3 we made our own font using the characters :(o l e d s n c h t i g , . ! #). This task was quite time consuming and required paying attention to details.

Observation

In Task 1: Exercise 1 I learned a lot not just from the lectures and further reading but mostly from tutorials, trial and error, previous work of students by viewing their e portfolio and feedback given by the teacher .

In Task 1: Exercise 2 I learned more about the longer text formatting this time around I depended a lot on the video tutorials on formatting provided and some I found online myself.

In Task 2: I observed my seniors work to  a get better idea on what my lecturer and tutors expect in both the e portfolio and my work itself.

In Task 3: I observed many fonts online trying to think of my own idea and doodled around till I found the concepts I wanted to sketch. I also observed Mr. Max' feedback he gave both me and my peers during tutorials.

Findings

In Task 1: I found out Many new things such as  even the smallest details  in a letter form make a big difference in the whole type form, how contrast improves legibility, how using kerning and letterspacing makes a big  difference in both short and long text and  the anatomy of a typeface.

In Task 2: I found out from my further reading I used single column grids for the text and  improvisational structures for my headings. I also believe I found out more is less and I made 3 very simplistic designs using my research.

In Task 3: I found out the many tedious consistencies your typeface needs including heights, angles, lengths and thickness'. How all these details  make sure all letters have the same design language.
