LECTURES

Week 5:Perception & Organization.
Perception in typography  shows the visual navigation and interpretation from the reader using:
  • Contrast: there are several ways to create contrast: 1. Size, 2. Weight, 3. Contrast of Form, 4. Contrast of Structure, 5. Contrast of Texture, 6. Contrast of Color and 7. Contrast of Direction.
    Fig 1.1 Methods of Contrast.

  • Form: Overall look and feel of the elements that make up the typographic composition. Showing type as  a form creates unique characteristics and presentation by using meaning and balanced harmony for function and expression.
    Fig 1.2 Using Forms.

  • Organization: Gestalts theory emphasizes that the whole of everything is greater than the parts ( bigger picture>smaller details)

FEEDBACK

Week 7: Specific: adjust IG layout and collaterals General: Complete e-portfolio, IG layout, and collaterals Week 6: Specific: Thicken the wordmark's outer lines and adjust the chosen color scheme General: Complete key artwork Week 5: Specific: Explore my sketches a bit further before digitizing. General: start digitalizing sketches

REFLECTION

Experiences:
This Assignment was overall pretty challenging for me as I lost all my work towards the end but since I already did the task I already understood the task and had the concept in my head so withing a week i was able to create a similar end result. Task 2A was fairly simple as after I made my sketches I was able to digitalize and just play with color schemes with the help with Mr. Vinod's feedback. Task2B was a lot more trial an error with playing around with elements on the collateral and different Instagram compositions.

Observations:
Using lectures and further readings I was able to find ways to create a brand with a wordmark, how to create contrast, the importance of color and weight of your lines. I observed that the bigger picture is more important than the small details especially when creating the Instagram layout I needed to consider balance.

Findings:
I learned a lot this assignment the biggest thing is importance of cloud  and physical backups. On the other side because of this inconvenience I learned how to get work done more effectively making future assignments flow faster than before. I also learned that exploring different things and feedback improves your quality of work as it gives you clarity in what direction you want to procced in.

San Antonio Book Festival:
I used the San Antonio Book Festival Wordmark as reference when making my word mark I extracted information from the website including:
  • Wordmarks can be used in more than one layout (the composition of the word mark may be altered).
  • Both the color and design language of the wordmark may be extracted from something of importance to the brand such as architecture.
  • Some circumstances you may add other elements as long as they have a reason or connection to the wordmark.
  • Using Repetition to create a pattern can add some uniqueness to your brand.
  • To create uniqueness and variation to your brand when creating collateral you many break down your word mark into forms.
