Objective:
The objective of
this assignment is to develop a comprehensive proposal for the redesign of an
existing website. The proposal should demonstrate your ability to critically
evaluate a website’s design and functionality, and to propose design
solutions that enhance user experience, aesthetics, and performance.
 
Assignment
Description:
You are required to
select an existing website which you feel has several design and UX issue and
prepare a detailed proposal for its redesign. The proposal should address the
following key aspects:
     
Website Analysis:
 
Current Design Evaluation: Provide a critique of the current design,
focusing on layout, color scheme, typography, imagery, and overall
aesthetics.
 
User Experience (UX): Assess the site’s usability, navigation,
accessibility, and responsiveness. Identify pain points or areas that could
be improved.
 
Functionality: Evaluate the website’s performance, including load
times, interactivity, and compatibility across different devices and
browsers.
     
Redesign Goals:
 
Objectives: Clearly define the goals of the redesign (e.g., improved
usability, modernized look, enhanced brand alignment).
 
Target Audience: Describe the intended audience for the redesigned
website and how the new design will better meet their needs.
      
Design Proposal:
Visual Design Concepts: Present your ideas for the new visual design,
including visual references, mood board and wireframes. Discuss the rationale
behind your design choices.
  
UX Enhancements:
 
Propose changes to improve user experience, such as simplified
navigation, better content organization, or enhanced interactivity.
Technical Considerations: Outline any technical updates or changes,
such as optimizing for mobile devices, or improving load times

Submission:

Submit your E-portfolio link that includes an embedded link of your proposal. The proposal can be prepared using any form of
presentation application such as Google Slide, Canva or Microsoft PowerPoint.

Website Analysis:

The layout is probably the best out of the design as the bar is very low, it has a very standard layout and it still has issues as the bottom of the page that includes contact information is very cluttered and unbalanced.

I am unable to find a color scheme for this website the closest thing is white, pink and grey with rainbow accents as the colors are all over the place.
The typography is fairly simple typeface wise but the layout/composition is very basic, "template" like as it was not planned or carefully though through.
but in some cases the typography is too loud and does not fit with the typography of the body.




When it comes to the imagery its not so well done as the main Halloween top section of the page is low quality and very pixelated. Also the image showing the light up swords are very low quality and the white background sticks out like a sore thumb around the light grey.


The overall aesthetics of the website are quite poor as in no identifying design language, no consistency and can be improved with some adjustments..

The site’s usability, navigation, accessibility, and responsiveness are fairly good as it is very barebones but something I did not like is how it redirected me to a whole different URL and was unable to go back to the home page easily.

The website’s performance and load times are decent cannot really complain had no issues with buffering or load times
Interactivity wise it was only the Halloween graphic that moved around and everything else was very static and barebones
In terms of compatibility on different devices I tried on mobile(phone and tablet) and laptop. On my laptop the website worked as intended across 2 different browsers (Chrome and Opera) it functioned as it was intended. On mobile devices it took forever to load, the layout was poor and it was decently optimized for phone but not as much for tablet.

Redesign Goals and UX Enhancements: 
  • Change the layout to balance the typography and other features better.
  • Change the fonts to something more unique and consistent.
  • Find  a more unique color scheme that matches the product.
  • Use higher quality images that are not as tacky and match the website more.
  • Add some more interactivity and animations.
  • Better organization of different menu items.
  • Better mobile optimization and layout.
